The company kept her from new in 1973 to 2002 when she was sold for preservation WOV 560T was an AEC Reliance new to Mid-Warwickshire, Balsall Common YDD 109S was another long-lives AEC Reliance. Pictured at Weston-Super-Mare, a popular day trip from Gloucestershire, she was scrapped after 22 years MDF 870P was owned for 20 years, the company eventually cut her up for scrap G993 DDF in Cite Europe. It is a 1989 vintage Volvo B10M/Plaxton Paramount that still looked smart when pictured in Calais' Cite Europe 14 years later. She was sold the following year to another Cheltenham operator.

It was sold in 1966 to David, Pontycymmer AAW 311B crosses the Sharpness and Gloucester Ship Canal to pick up a passenger. The cottage is typical along the canal. AAW 311B (ex Whittle) and 5565 AD pictured in the today Silvey yard at Epney. AAW was a 1964 Bedford SB5/Duple, while AD was a 1960 Bedford SB1, with a heavier-looking Duple body of the type typical in the mid and late Fifties.

It would never have been allowed out in this state by the good Burghers of Maidstone where it had been their number 55. The bus was a 1974 Bedford YRQ with Willowbrook bodywork. She went for scrap in 1989. SUJ 836 was a Bedford SB1/Burlingham C41F. It was pictured close to Temple Meads station. New to Housden, Loughborough it was sold to Graham's, Bristol Walkley, Cinderford used this Vulcan charabanc in the early Twenties Beavis, Bussage KFH 800V was an unusual Fiat 55F10 with Harwin C20F bodywork. It ran between 1980 and 1988 when it went to ABC, Whetstone Cathedral, Gloucester KUX 457 operating on Cathedral's route between Gloucester and Tewkesbury via Ashleworth (where there is a splendid little pub and restaurant on the banks of the Severn). Ashby-de-la-Zouch, It was scrapped by the company in 1968 Morgan, Corse Lawn 647 AD was a VAS2 with diminuitive Plaxton bodywork. It was the first coach that I ever photographed. Willetts, Yorkley KAD 575, having brought a sports team to Sir Thomas Rich's School, in Oakleaze, Gloucester. It was scrapped a year after this picture was taken. It was pictured in Cheltenham's Royal Well bus station. What a pity I wasn't able to record its maroon and silver livery. They passed with the business to Marchant and last until 1972 when 720 was scrapped. 714 ran for a further two years. Cathedral, Gloucester KUX 457 was a Bedford SBO with Duple Midland B40F bodywork. It is seen in Eastgate Street, Gloucester, operating in from the village of Apperley. The imposing edifice in the background is Gloucester Indoor Market. It would be taken down, stored for years, and then re-erected 50 yards along the road to provide the entrance to the Eastgate Shopping Centre. The scaffolding on the right is where the burned-out Hippodrome cinema is being demolished and replaced by a new British Home Stores. The bus came from Machin Soudley Valley, Forest of Dean KDD 38 was an AEC Regal III 9621A/Harrington FC33F new to Soudley Valley, Glos. Matthews, Churchdown 3401 NT was an ex-Whittle Bedford SB5 with Duple bodywork. The firm was short-lived, but kept a tidy fleet. Sparkes, Bristol 260 JMU was formerly with Maroon, Woodford Green. It was an AEC Reliance MU3RV with Duple Donnington C41C bodywork. Morgan, Corse Law VHL 936, ex-West Riding 936, was a bedford SB5 with Plaxton C41F bodywork dating from 1962. Pulham, Bourton-on-the-Water RDF 500R was a Leyland Leopard PSU3C.4R with Plaxton bodywork, new the previous year. It lasted six years and was sold to Perrott YCO 313 was new to Embankment, Plymouth. It was a Bedford VAL14 VAL/Duple DG 1770, a Dearborn, pictured at the Bromyard Rally Flash, Newent TRY 132J was a Bristol RELL/ECW new as Leicester 132. It is seen in Hereford operating a deregulated bus service. Greystones KNY 657K clearly had major problems when photographed ... New in 1981, Castleways maintained it in service for 27 years before passing it for preservation. Here it is seen leaving the former Digbeth Coach Station. Warner Fairfax, Tewkesbury 3081 WF was new as Leyland demonstrator, THG 852X. It was pictured beside the A38 near Tewkesbury. Berline, Gloucester DDF 729Y was a DAF MB200 with Van Hool Alizee C48FT bodywork. It was with the fleet for just nine months before the company went into liquidation. Thecoach is seen leaving Digbeth Coach Station on a National Express duplication. It had been sold to Capticorn, ..., after sale and was running under re-registration as MJI 3833. Beavis, Bussage J11 ALP was a Neoplan N208 with Auwaerter C24FT bodywork. It was caught on film at Chatham Historic Dockyard. It was acquired by Ewen, Dyce after 21 months service, in 1993. Hall and Ashby, Gloucester THM 662M, the Tesco Bus, that began life as London Transport DMS 1662 Cotswold Courier Services' KDG 41V, a Ford R1014 with Duple Dominant bodywork, on the A40 near Oxford Bennett, Gloucester JOO 987 was a Ford 570E with Plaxton Embassy I bodywork. New in 1962 and acquired from Martin, Hillingdon, in 1968, it ran for 12 years with Bennett before being sold to Eastville, Bristol. Perrett, Shipton Oliffe VFH 461X after it was acquired by Grahams, Abertillery. It is seen in Chester. It was a Ford R1114/Plaxton Supreme V that ran for the Gloucestershire firm from 1982 to 1985. 268 ELK Perrett, Shipton Oliffe JDG 322V in Northleach. It was one of a pair of Bedford YMT/Duple Dominants bought in 1980 that lasted until 1984. Both were sold to R&R, Lilley, Bedfordshire. Perrett, Shipton Oliffe JDG 322V picks up plenty of customers in Northleach Bennett, Gloucester JOO 987 during a traffic diversion off the A417 and through the gloucester trading estate (formerly Gloster Aircraft Company) Warner, Tewkesbury LDG 962W Grindles decided to preserve CDD 235K, a Bedford VAL with Plaxton bodywork. Soudley Valley, Soudley KDD 38 (AEC Regal III/Harrington) leads Bedford OB JDG 552 past Cannop Ponds when new. KCH 224 with Edwards, Joy's Green, was pictured in St Aldate Street, Gloucester 831 SHW, AAD 248B and AAD 250B at the time of the transfer from Edwards to Paul Tizard 510 PYB, an AEC Reliance 2MU3RA/Duple Britannia that at one time was regularly used as the Gloucester RFC team coach by Edwards, Lydbrook. It was new to Jones, Ystradgynlais. WUX 657K still wearing Parish livery, was new to Brown, Donnington Wood. It was a Bedford YRQ/Willowbrook B45F GHS 311K was a bedford YRQ with Willowbrook DP45F bodywork. PTH 100K at the Dean Forest yard in Lydbrook. It came from Williams, Tumble, and was a Bedford SB5 with Duple bodywork. FNM 647E at the Dean Forest yard. It was new to Stringer, Ampthill, but purchased via Herberts, Hitchin, and was a Plaxton C24F-bodied Bedford VAS1 9902 UG, a Wallace Arnold Leyland after conversion to a recovery vehicle for Edwards, Lydbrook, pulls a Seddon into the yard when all three were owned by Dean Forest Coaches 272 STF was previously with H L Beales. It was a 2MU3RV with ungainly Plaxton bodywork from which the more elegant Panorama would eventually emerge. 272 STF and ex-Cardiff 560 (WUH 560K) ROA 729G was an AEC Reliance 6U3ZR with plaxton C51F coachwork. MVX 423J was a Seddon Pennine IV with plaxton Supreme C53F coachwork new to Walls, Hatfield. SMH 100M was new to Hanworth Acorn, Bedfont. It was a Seddon Pennine VI with Plaxton Supreme C53F bodywork. MSF 729P was new to Eastern Scottish (ZC 729) and still wears the former operator's colours. OGR 927M (a Bedford YRQ with Duple Dominant body) and CXD 301M (A Bedord YRT with competing Plaxton bodywork) 272 STF after acquisition by Dean Forest TGM 202J GHS 311K (a Bedford YRQ/Willowbrook DP45F) and DDF 300L, an AEC Reliance 6U3ZR with Plaxton coachwork. Bedford VAM/Duple Viceroy, partly cannibalised MPR 536H was a Bedford VAL with Plaxton Val bodywork 9902 UG is a Leyland Leopard L2 with Plaxton bodywork. It was new to Walalce Arnold in 1961. FTD 515D and the former Eastern Scottish Bedford/Alexander. FTD was new to Byng,Portsmouth, and was an AEC Reliance 2MU3RA with Duple Commander bodywork. LSG 719P was a Bedford YRQ with Alexander C38F bodywork LXA 409G shortly after arrival from Alexander Fife (FRF 9), and wearing that company's red livery TGM 202J was new as Central SMT D2. It was a CRG6LXB/ECW H77F. LXA 409G was ex Alexander Fife (FRF 9), a Daimler Fleetlinewith Alexander bodywork MSF 729P, a Bedford YRT with Alexander bodywork - and a battered nose. MSF 729G's front grille. This was where radiators from scrapped Albions and AEC Regals were once stacked by Edwards' staff. MSF 729G was one of the very last - if not the last - to be broken up at Joys Green. MJH 279L was a Bedford YRT with Plaxton bodywork 9902 UG KRN 344H was new to Charter, Ebbw Vale. It was a Plaxton Embassy-bodied Bedford VAS5 with C29F bodywork. DBT 953C was new to Primrose Valley, Filey SNT 285H was a Bedford VAM70 with Willowbrook DP45F bodywork of a style which was very much the rural workhorse in the late Seventies. LXA 409G was originally Alexander Fife FRF 9 THM 704N was a former London Transport Daimler Fleetline, DMS 1704 831 SHW, the former Bristol Omnibus C7138 JRC 254D, ex Trent 831 SHW and JRC 254D NWG 10G, new to Alexander Midland as its MRF 67. It was a Daimler Fleetline with Alexander bodywork. PTH 100K at the Dean Forest yard in Lydbrook. Beyond is a former Black & White AEC Reliance/Harrington MSF 729P, repainted after acquisition 9902 UG and a Seddon wrecker JUA 304E, 211 CCH and 831 MHW JUA 304E

Stagecoach has replaced the bus services, which run from Ruardean to Gloucester via Longhope, and the former Red & White/Stagecoach route from Cinderford to Gloucester. For many years, Cottrell's ran in friendly competition with Red & White and later National Welsh, which it saw off in Stagecoach's early days. But thanks to Rob Richardson, I am now able to say it is a 1960 AEC Reliance with Duple bodywork that passed to Cottrells in November 1966 from P & O Lloyd of Bagillt. It ran with them until April 1969. he has called on the services of Peter Tulloch, a leading member of the PSV Circle, who has made an almost watertight case for it being wrongly recorded by me 40 years ago!
